ELC Department Teachers
ELC Department instructors for the most part tend to teach English
majors almost exclusively. Furthermore, because Woosong University
itself maintains one of the largest staffs of English native-speaking
teachers (40+) in Korea, the ELC Department is frequently able
to select only proven teachers, with the highest of qualifications
(minimum MA Degree in English-related subjects) and experience.
Currently native-speaking ELC teachers not only come from all
over the world but are made up of a variety of age groups. This
is considered to be beneficial to our students, who can expect
exposure to a diverse range of viewpoints, accents and cultural
differences as well as learning styles.
At any one time the ELC teaching staff is made up of approximately
six Korean professors and six native-speaking English professors.
Although the absolute minimum teaching requirement is an MA
in TESOL, Linguistics or a degree closely related to English,
a number of our classes are taught by PhDs, some of whom are
also heavily involved in the Graduate TESOL/MALL Program.
Every Tuesday afternoon during semesters, ELC instructors lead
student-centered activity clubs which focus on debating, news
discussion, pop songs, drama and enjoyable fun-based conversational
activities.
As well as developing a rapport with their students, instructors
are also expected to participate in special events throughout
the year, such as student orientation training and school festivals.
Whatever their origin and background, all our ELC teachers
are like-minded when it comes to student motivation and promoting
academic excellence. As well they are all dedicated to their
students' progress and readily support each other and their
management staff.
